This video was shot in Vancouver by the awesome indie director Tama Gempton from

Cinematic Imagination. We had a serious budget of 400 dollars and managed to

Roundabout!!!

Sunday, September 20, 2009

Yesterday I was driving around Western Alberta when I heard a song on CBC that reminded me of my dear dear friend Tim Tweedale….since there’s only room for one roundabout song in this world—which one should it be?

Tim Tweedale- Roundabout!!

what a weekend! thank you lovely folks in Hedley for your excellent singing, food and fun topics of discussion, and thanks for laughing with me about my accident-prone-ness. i couldn’t believe how many accidents I had that night: I stepped on the mic-stand so that it sort of bounced onto my lips and they started bleeding. Then the PA fell off the table. Then I almost spilled water on the PA. Then I cut my finger with Tim’s army knife as I was trying to get the insanely ridiculously tight shrinkwrap off to sign a cd. the blood was pouring down my hand as I was hiding it, trying to finish the conversation. I wonder if he noticed…Then both Tim and I bounced into people with our guitars as we stormed the crowd playing Ballad of Sherri.

I am considering writing a song about Hedley, that’s how many amazing stories we got to hear in one night. I’m not going to post them here because some were not for print, but believe me when I say they were good.

highlight of the evening: meeting someone (of fairly youngish age) who doesn’t have internet, and has never used a computer!!!!! wow!! that is just so amazing…

I had a really nice morning drinking tea by the gorgeous river and breakfast at the Hitching Post, then we were off again back to Vancouver! Tim and I realized that we had missed each other a lot and vowed to make more trips together in Canada. We had an ipod duel of sorts, and then in Tim’s usual fashion he put on a song of mine that I had no idea was even recorded. In this case it was a live recording of ‘Long Way home” from our show in Launceston, UK this spring. I was happily surprised by it, and was also surprised that somehow someone had taped it without my knowledge, and that it had, even more mysteriously, ended up in Tim’s ipod…….Last time it was a song of mine called “Poetic Medicine” that I had forgotten that I ever even wrote, let alone recorded….I remember Tim dropping it on me somewhere in Sweden, and me saying….”that’s a really nice song, who is that?” Sometimes I wonder how many other songs I have written but will never ever remember (because I didn’t give them to Tim). I should just give them all to him to make sure they don’t get lost I guess.

Sunday and monday were filming days. Tama Gempton from Cinematic Imagination and I had come up with a little idea for my song CRY WOLF. I have no idea how it turns out, but I’m really excited to see! I think that it will be done in about a month or so. Apparently the only lab that develops 16mm film in North America is under construction for the rest of the month so we will have to wait a few weeks. But as they say in Sweden…..the one that waits for something good never waits too long……….thanks to all the participants!!! : ) : ) : ) and Istvan for driving us around all day today.

Lately I have been thinking about copyright and intellectual property.  Someone was talking about copying my cds at the show. I just want to say that if you want to burn a cd with my songs to share with friends, please do. Just come to my show, or recommend my show to other people. Or send me good thoughts….What goes around comes around I think. But if you can, of course buy my cd, or donate to me at some point. For me, what is important is that people listen to my music, and if you feel like you want to support me and my artistry you are very welcome to. It is after all how I pay my bills and my travel expenses. (And now that a lot of grants have been cut it’s going to be much harder for many canadian artists…) It seems to me though that there is a lot of hope for the future and for implementing new systems for music distribution and consumption, because I think that the average person actually wants to support artists that they like and love and that have brought something to their lives. I just don’t think that anyone wants to ever see the arts disappear. I am honestly excited for what the future will bring in terms of positive changes that will work well for the listener and for the artist..at least i hope.

enough about that…………..

I am about to do laundry and prepare for my trip out to Calgary.
